LiFe receiver batterys
Just wanting some info on these batterys for use in a nitro receiver. Is anything special needed for use of this battery other than a special charger (which I may be getting soon)?? Will I need to put anything on my buggy? Do I have to do anything specific to the battery other than charge it back up?
I have always used nimh, nothing special about those, lol Oops, and also will and/or what life batterys will fit in a losi 8ight buggy?? Is a balancer required for this battery? |
I haven't used the kind of LiFes that you would buy to use as a rcvr batt, but have used the orig a123 type LiFes a bunch. They have balance wires and do need to be balanced.

ok. but thats no big deal right?
how about charging? and what exactly is the balancer for? |
for receiver pack, you will need a 2S 6.6V Life pack which constitute 2pcs 3.3v Life cell wired in series to give an output voltage of 6.6V, the balance function is just as the name said, balance the voltage so that both cells output are matched, a pack that has big difference in voltage between cells are not too safe to use...

Charging - LiFes are charged like lipo, except with the charger set to LiFe mode. Some chargers don't have a LiFe mode, but you will set the "lithium" nominal cell voltage, 3.7v for lipo, 3.6 for Li-Ion and 3.3v fopr LiFe, to tell the charger which lithium type battery you're charging. This is usually in the user setup part of this type of charger's menu.
Then based on this selection, the charger does a CC/CV type charge charging each diff type to their respective maximum cell voltage (4.2v/cell for lipo, 4.1v/cell for Li-Ion and 3.6v/cell). Balancing insures the cells don't overcharge and start the next discharge balanced (or pretty close). |
I need some help. I am thinking of buying a life rx pack, its a 1400mah,
2c, 6.6v. I have an m8 with crystals and use reg airtronics servoes. Do I need a regulator? |

Thanks for the help. Does your system use crystals and is an older system like mine. Most are using 2.4 and i wasnt very specific before. Thanks for the help.
No, I am using 2.4 on my KO Helios but I don't think that should make a difference at all. Voltage to the receiver and servos is just voltage, I don't think it makes a difference, if anyone know better please chime in. I highly doubt it would be a problem at all. |

so is the difference from when everyone started using lipos for their rx they were 7v. and 7v is to much for an rx without a reg? the life being 6.6v that would make it safe for use without the reg in any system.
If anyone has better info, please chime in. Hope this helps. |

My understanding is that some radio system receivers can not take a 2 cell lipo (7.4 volts when charged fully is 8.4 volts) fully charged at 8.4 volts. The issue is that the servos would be getting 8.4 volts versus their 6 volts. That is why regulators are needed in some radio systems. At least with 6.6 volt liFe they are fully charged at 7.2 volts and hover below 7 volt for the most part.
If anyone has better info, please chime in. Hope this helps. |

Thank you for the help. Airtronics said they hadent tested that system with life or lipo without a reg. so just hopping someone has tried it and can share any info.
