4600Kv / 5700Kv the same???
Hi there,
Hopefully I'm posting my question in the correct thread. My friend and I have been running HPI Blitz's around our neighborhood streets for the past few weeks , both of us using Castle Sidewinder 1:10 / 4600 Kv motor combos. A sale at our LHS forced me to purchase the 5700 motor, hoping to see a fairly good increase in performance. To my surprise, absolutely no increase in top speed  I'm using a 4000 mah / 20c 2S lipo with stock gearing. What am I missing??? Why would these different powered motors have the same performance? Does the 5700 Kv motor just allow for higher gearing (hence more speed)? Is the 20C battery limiting the amp flow? I'm lost  Thanks for your input, SoCal |
Go down 3 teeth on your pinion with the 5700.
I think your stock pinion is to big even for the 4600. If you need more speed and your temp is good add some timing, it makes a big difference. |

I always thought that the larger the pinion, the higher the top end. Would it be that the larger motor doesn't have the torque of the smaller motor to turn the larger pinion??? Thanks again! |

Wow, my logic is all screwed up :weird:
Up to a point your logic is right, you should use a smaller pinion to let the motor wind up all the way and add timing well looking at your motor, ESC and lipo temperature. \ If your ESC is hot your pinion is to big. once you get the gearing figured out you will see the difference.
