WHY DO LIPOS BALLOON
Hi Guys
Lets get some info about why lipos balloon and everyones thoughts on how the problems can be fixed . I already know why they balloon after 1 year of study let's see what other's think . ok let's get the info flowing |
so they can float?
btw its called puffing, and they do that because something with the chemical inside them that makes them... |
internal pressure and heat disapation would be my guess. But the only lithium polymer battery i own is attached to the computer i am typing on.

I guess I got lucky with the two 1500 mah lipo receiver
packs that I just had to replace. I wrote the purchase on date on them when I took the out of the packages and one lasted two years and the other lasted a week longer. They were recharged hundreds of times and took alot of abuse. I guess I got my moneys worth from them. Then again, I had a Thunderpower 2100 mah lipo receiver battery that didn't last three months. |
I'm still looking for the chemical reason one swells and haven't seen a reference explaining it yet. It is a gas thats generated and what I've read says its generated both in charging and discharging. Obviously generated outside of 'normal' parameters since most don't swell when merely charging or discharging.
I've had my share - I left some stored at 50% charge and was gone for much longer than anticipated (out of the country on assignment), when I got back most had a puffed cell - every one was the cell on top as I had left them sitting. I even had a new, never used one puff. |

Thanks |
They were sitting on a porcelain slab inside a 23mm ammo can - none of them were touching.

i was thinking if the higher C rating will have some setback? i used the 3800mAH & 4000mAH of same model. but they do not swell. this except the 5000mAH & the 5200mAH.
