I was wondering what is the difference?

Can I charge them in the same way? or do I need a specific charger to charge each?

Currently I have a charger which only has a setting for Lipos and was wondering can I use this setting to charge LiFes also?

advantages, you dont need a regulator if used as a RX pack, more cycles than lipos and no risk of BOOM with life packs, they last for ever and very safe to use, charge and handle. charge time is very fast, it takes 15-20 minutes to fully charge a 1700 RX pack where in Lipos, its takes a bit more. when you charge a 1700 life, you can charge it at 4amps rate where with lipo, you have to stick with the old method 1700=1.7amps

voltage is 6.6V and peacks at 7.2V
you CANT and shouldnt use Lipo Mode to charge life batteries, you should have either LIFE mode or A123 Mode to charge them. all new lipo chargers have one of those modes.

Soooooooo life>lipo in every single way? Are there disadavantages though? Sounds like there's no point to lipos if life is this good.

Life weighs almost what NiMh does, so lipo has a definite weight advantage. Lipo also holds voltage better than LiFe which shows a large voltage drop when current demand is high.

There are applications where LiFe is well suited and may be better than lipo like powering rcvrs, bu when it comes to a main power source for an electric vehicle, lipo is the better power source.

Are life batteries compatible with all brushless esc's?

As long as the escs voltage specs are not exceeded, it doesn't matter what the voltage source is. Volts are volts.....

Good read!!! I was going to get a life battery for my Serpent 733. but my charger will not charge them (triton 2). I already have 2 chargers and I did not want to invest into another charger. I thought Life batteries where in the same weight class as a Lipo. Kinda glad I went the Lipo route I really needed the weight savings. I just hope my regulator holds up.

Does A life battery have the same discharge curve as a Lipo?

Life seems to have more voltage drop. But the amps are there (at least with the orig a123 type batts). Some disch charts on RC Groups show they drop to 2.6v or so and stay til capacity is depleted. Reason they're better suited for powering rcvrs than motors.
