Thunder AC6 or iMax B6 charger?

I'm ready to replace my Duratrax Piranha charger. I can get into lipos as well as discharge my aging Nimh's and balance charge them. Any reason I would want the Thunder over the imax for $14 more?

Have you looked @ hobbypartz.com they have a balancing lipo charger that is the equivalent to the Trinity I-balance charger for $60 shipped to your door. i have one and am super happy with it especially at the price.
Oh wait it is the Thunder AC6 I will put up a link

Unless I'm looking at the wrong one, the IMax B6 is a dc charger where the Thunder AC-6 is AC/DC.

IMax has an AC/DC version, the Imax B6-AC, but its practically the same price as the Thunder.

Are you looking for a DC or an AC/DC charger?

Where I found the iMax, it comes with AC adapter, which is what I primarily use. $41.99 plus $3.95 s/h.

Then in answer to your orig question - no.

It is a 50watt charger and will handle 2S lipos fine, you will see some charge current limiting by the charger above 2S cell counts as charger stays within its 50watt output power limit. Will charge up to 6S as advertised, but with the 50watt power limit, it will take longer.

So the iMax is the way to go or is there another one I'm missing? Thanks!!

I always recommend that people stay away from 50W chargers. Get something that can handle at least 200W and you'll be glad you did. It will cost more but it's an investment that will last a long time and keep up as you grow in the hobby and battery technology advances.

If you're considering the iMax, they have a newer PRO model.

Yea, I saw that one. Wasn't sure what the real difference would be. They're both the same price.

I found this last night exploring - seems the IMAX B6 has a recognized prob with its builtin balancer - this thread was a how to upgrade to fix that prob that apparently continues to this day Start reading on pg 37 -

Seems if you can access a specific calibration menu, then you can replace some resistirs on teh pcb and fix the balancer. If yoyu can't access this specific calibration menu, then you can't help the balancer.

I wouldn't buy one after reading about this issue. Thats what your price savings is costing you - a good balancer.

What about the Battman B6? It's $49.95 with A/C adaptor. http://www.okhobby.com/product.php?id_product=1075

Looks like a good unit.

I don't understand the 110 power cord issue the above OP was asking about at the end. You may need a cord thats not supplied.

I think he was just trying to get one for his. So, some others said stay away from 50w chargers. Should I go with the 80w I posted or is the 50w fine for what I'm doing? I have 7.2v 1200-1600 nimh packs and I would like to try whatever 2S lipo fits my new Caster F18T.

Duster_360 05-10-2010 07:34 AM

The B6 has a poor quality builtin balancer, I wouldn't get that one, it'll take too long to balance and the quality of teh balance will be p[oor (large voltage diff between cells).

The 80watt looks good, its a little more than you need, but extra charger power is always a good thing. The 80watts will let you charge 3S at pretty much full 1C charge rates which is something you can't do with 50watts.
