Another steering servo question
 

My Cen Racing Matrix R2 RTR came with questionable servos. The steering servo has a lot of bounce and doesn't center well. I'm just a backyard basher and it's no big deal... I'll upgrade the servo at some point. I've read through the "what servo?" threads here and will eventually buy a good one when I have the extra cash to burn.

In the mean time, I do have a new HiTec digital HS-5645MG in the workshop (I've been flying R/C for years and the Matrix R2 is my first car). With the 6V receiver pack I have in the Matrix, the HS-5645 will put out 164 oz/in of torque and move 60 deg. in .18 seconds. I also have an HS-5625 that would be little quicker (.14 seconds) but somewhat weaker (130 oz/in).

Will it be a worthwhile improvement to install one of these servos I have on hand, or would they just get quickly destroyed? (If that's the case, I'd rather save them for airplane use.)

The 5645 should be worthy of the job. digital and pretty tough. I race and have used the 5645 as a back up with no issues. I do prefer higher torque than the 5645 can dish out though especially for long term abuse. hope this helps.

The 5645 would be an improvement in that it would center better. I don't know what the specs are on the stock strg servo, the ads I've read lists them as hi torque, metal geared servos. If the 5645 is stronger, I would replace it, if its less torque, then I wouldn't.

The advertised specs of the OEM Skyion servos are 144 oz/in and .22 seconds transit time at what I would assume is 6V. I'm a little skeptical about the torque figure as I'm able to manually move the servo arm fairly easily with the 6V system turned on.

Looks like the HS-5645MG would be an improvement. I'll mount one up tomorrow and give it a whirl (it's supposed to be too cold and windy for R/C flying, so I'll do some R/C driving!).
