External Balancer connections??

1 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone, this is my first post so please bear with me.
I've got a HPI patrick charger (which is awesome:nod:) but doesn't have a balancing port for charging Lipo's, so I also got a dualsky external balancer but it came with very few instructions on how to connect it.

Should I charge the battery only through the balancer or should i connect the main leads to the battery and run the balancer in parallel with the charger.

Any help is much appreciated, Ive added some picks to help explain (Im not much of an artist though).

Thanks

Hard to believe companies are putting out new chargers without a builtin balancer. I'd never own one, its just too messy to deal with - like you find yourself confronted with. Early on in my lipo experience I bought a Dual Sky balancer and like you hard a hard time figuring it out. I was never satisfied that mine really worked. I only use balancing chargers now.

You don't really want to charge thru the balance wires (limits charge rate to 2.0amp or less due to safety and wire size) so that eliminates your option B. Go with A and see if it works. Use your dvm/mm and measue cell voltage before and after to see if thats doing anything.

Thanks heaps duster, Ill give option A a try and see what happens.
But Im thinking that Ill end up getting a new charger with a balancing port, it sounds a whole lot easier.

Thanks heaps again
