Protecting soft lipo's
 

I just wrapped my Hyperion 4s soft lipo pack with thin foam on each side and on the front of the pack. I then put electrical tape on the foam to keep it stuck to the pack. I've lightly damaged the packs due to wrecking but it doesn't seem to bad. Just a slight indentation.... Will this effect the temp of the pack? Has anyone done this and had issue's?

You'll be better off if you re-think your strategy - you need to secure the packs such that they simply can't move, then you won't need padding. I use 1" wide velcro on the bottom of the lipo and the tray. Walmart sells a 25' roll for about $1/ft. I use at least two additional straps, one at each end and my soft pacs don't move - cartwheels, jumps, crashes, etc - they don't move, I've never damaged one.

You can't pad them adequately, they simply have to be secured so they can not move.


Watch the pac the next few cycles, if its just lightly dented, I doubt you've caused significant damage.

I do have velcro on the bottom of my battery tray plus a strap that goes across the lipo length ways. I tried to put velcro on the bottom of the lipo but every time I would try to pull the battery off. It would pull the velcro off of it and I had attach another piece. I tried smaller pieces and larger pieces of velcro. I may try the padding and see how that goes. Thanks Duster_360 for the advice.

The two straps I use go around lipo perdendicluar to the length - one near the front and another near the back. I found lengthwise straps couldn't really be tightened enough and prevent the lipo from moving a little sideways and then either slipping out and coming free or being able to move around. I tried thin and wide lengthwise straps, with velcro and secured with a buckle type clamp. Someone told me to try two smaller ones at 90 degrees and I've not had any further probs with any movement.
