Default lipo charging / balance help

hey guys i am kinda new to lipo. i have a gt power a8 charger bought from hobby city and turnigy 5000mah 4s lipo packs having trouble with the cell voltages not being the same when the charger says it's done. i charged 3 batts tonight one said 4.19v 4.19v 4.19v 4.20 the other 4.16 4.15 4.17 4.24 how bad is this for the battery? can it be the battery causing this or should the charger always make it right. any help would be great thanks

Assuming you are using the balance charge mode and not just he charge mode, 1st batt looks about as good as you can expect. The 2nd doesn't. I suspect its part batt and part charger. Chargers have a balance spec, some call it balance accuracy and its rarely quoted. The iCharger 208B says its balance accuracy is less than .01v (10mv). I know my GT Power A-6-10 doesn't list a balance spec, just a current drain for balancing. I'm guessing that the spec is somewhere around .03v (30mv).

The lower the balance accuracy, the longer the charger will work on getting the cells balanced and the lower the balance accuracy is the more the charger costs. Have you checked these voltages against a dvm/mm to see how accurate they are?

I'd expect to see the 2nd batt improve with use. Try using a lower charge rate and see if it helps with the imbalance. Do you have anyway to charge individual cells in a lipo?

Use a higher lvc when running this lipo to protect that lowest voltage cell from overdischarging.
