fan on a sidewinder
 

any ideas how to mount a cooling fan on a MM sidewinder ESC? running it in a 4wd and it gets a little warm in there.

dont know about that brand but if its like novak the fan screwed down to the fins, wierd thing is thier was no holes to screw the bolts in, so I just dont use the fan, do you really need it?

Yeah alot of fans thread between fins on the heatsink, but I am not sure if you can do that on the Sidewinder. You may have to use thin wire to tie it down.

I have it in a team academy sbv2 4wd. with the undertray and the tight fitting body, there is not a lot of airflow. I woud rather have it and not need it than not have it and thermal my esc. I also am going to run it with a heatsink on the motor. my temps have been 150-160 on the motor w/ no heatsink after 5-6 minutes of high speed passes in a parking lot and 145 on the esc. according to castle those temps are safe but if i can reduce it a little i can bump up one tooth on the pinion and pick up a little more umphf.

i might see if I can use some mechanics wire or fishing wire leader material to get one on there. i'd rather be safe than sorry.

The heat sink on a Sidewinder is one of those finger type with separate little fingers of metal ticking up - not the kind with continuous metal fins. Not sure how to get a fan mounted.

Novak made a plastic pedastal that mounted a fan over the Emaxx EVX esc, something like that might work, but I can't find them anymore. Novak conversion kits seem to include one, but don't see it listed separately. Its shown with the fan in the upper right -

I have a academy SB myself and had to cut some holes in the bod "not to my liking" so things would fit, and yes those bods dont leave ya much room!!looks like your only option would be to do whatever it takes...and BTW dont let anyone fool ya those are still great cars

i know it is a good car. i had it at the track today to test/tune. the motor was in the 140's and the esc was about the same. pretty good by castle standards. i liked the car so much that i sold it and recently bought it back from the guy i sold it to. we'll see how it handles itself on saturday running the oval.
