Default Lipo full charge, no voltage???

i charged my blue lipo 3300 today to go in a b4. plugged it in and started to set epa on steering and throttle curve, about 5 seconds later the esc shuts off. oh oh, i checked the on off switch again and then tried a new battery. everything worked. i tried the battery again and nothing. plug it back into the charger and after about 12 seconds it reads 8.4v and beeps full again. plug it into the car and nothing. its the stock b4 rtr esc/motor with spectrum receiver. both batteries are about 5 cycles old and are cased batteries. why would the charger get voltage from the battery but the esc gets nothing? all connections are good too.

My guess is that the connector on the ESC might be a little worn. I've seen this happen from time to time, and replacing the connector(s) usually resolves the problem. The other thing I'd check would be the battery itself; if you can cycle the battery on your charger, I'd try discharging the battery to make sure that the battery is OK.

Yeah I agree. If you have a Blue Lipo I assume you have a Hobbypartz charger as well. They all come with a knock-off Deans plug that wears out pretty quickly. I love the cheap products, but the connectors have to go right away.

I would be suspicious of a connection somewhere - on that lipo, on teh charger or the esc. Try wiggling the wires at the conenction and see if it changes things. Sometimes a prob connection will get warm where the good ones won't.

Its not the voltage thats important, its the voltage when a load is applied. NiMhs were famous for this - good voltage until it was loaded (put in an rc to run), then voltage of next to nothing as soon as you tried to run it.

Default Connection

The blue lipo connector is the problem. Mine has done this and if you pull it out slightly it will start working. I need to change it but havent got around to it yet.

Thats not surprising, but its disappointing that the blue lipos seem to have poor connection/soldering emerging as a prob. HC had soldering/connection prob as well, but they seemd to have moved past it. When you say pull on it - is the conn prob at the connector or under the shrink?

I forgot to add earlier, if the voltage is gone, you can check voltage thru the balance connector and pretty much prove its a main conn prob.

i checked the connectors and they were good, i drained the battery 100mah and it worked fine after that. is there over voltage cutoff on the esc? both cells read 4.20 and 8.4v total. ran both packs today and got my usual 14 minutes run time.

wierd

That's the normal voltage lipo is supposed to charge to. I'm not aware any esc has overvoltage protection?? Low voltage protection , yes, but not the other....weird problem. But at least its acting normally now.

i've never ran electric, sc10 is my first. the lipo's are cased and tough so far. i did open up a case and there is a lot of wiggle room in there so i added cheez cloth, will do on the other soon. one of them likes to come unbalanced for some reason, like .4v or so, but i always balance them, actually the one thats been acting funny is the same one. i cant complain for $18 bucks each though.

Thats a pretty big cell imbalance - thats 400mv, my lipos rarely get more than 10mv out of balance (.01v). Even my Turnigy's are hanging around that.

Are you running to whatever your lvc is set at? These are beginning to spound more and more like the zippys of old - they also had a prob with going way out of balance, the mor ethey were disch, the more out of balance they got.

one battery stays balanced but the other if i stop half way will be unbalanced a bit, as much as .4v. its like 4.20 and 3.85 in balance charge. if i run it to lvc itl be like 3.2-3.2.

That makes it sound like you just got a batt with a poor cell. I got a Turnigy like that, one cell is a 3S was way down, but after charging each cell a few times, it stays much closer to the other cells, less than 0.1. But they all charge to 4.2v.

You might try charging at a low rate and see if that cuts the cell diff, or if you have a charger that charges thru teh balance wires try that.
