Experience with Power HD Servos

Hello -

I noticed that A Main Hobbies has a pretty full line of "Power HD" servos, both analog and digital. The prices are extremely cheap, especially for the torque and speed numbers that the manufacturer is quoting.

Does anyone have any experiences with these servos in 1/8th scale buggy or truggy? I was thinking about picking up a 1201MG and a 1501MG ($16.99 and $17.99 respectively).

Any thoughts?

Here are the specs:

1501 - $17.99
Specifications:
Weight: 60g (less connector)
Spline Pattern: Futaba Type
Connector: JR Type
Dimension: 40.7x20.5x39.5mm
Supply voltage: ~6.0V
Stall Torque: 235.90 oz-in (17kg.cm)
Operating Speed: 0.14sec/60°(no load running)
Dead band width: ≤4us

I went with some cheaper servos when I first started and I found out that they might not be all that they are advertised. If I were you I would go with a name brand like hitec etc.. you will also get a warranty with them.

I might try one in 10th scale electric but in a 10lb 50mph truggy or buggy,,,,naaa I would stick with one of the big brands, Hitec, Futuba, or JR.

I know the general 'rule of thumb' is to stick with the expensive, known brands. But, every company has to start somewhere, right? Any one have any real experience with these?

I think I'll pick them up and use them in my 10th scale for a bit before taking the leap of faith and putting them into my 8ths. I'll report back on how they are.

But, please post your thoughts and feedback on these servos if you've used them.

I've used them quite a bit, extremely grat bang for the buck.
The Power HD servos are the most popular servos among the flyers here in Sweden.

Very old thread I know but how is the 1201? Or just PowerHD in general?

been running a 1501MG in a losi 8ight-t brushless. Works great for bashing but it doesn't seem to center all that well after turning one direction so it's not the best for the track. I've run it through water/mud and have had no issues in terms of performance. If you can get over the centering issue it's really not a bad servo at all and if you bash well it's worth the $12.50 or so they cost. Can't comment as to its usefulness as a throttle servo in nitro have yet to try it. Wouldn't use it to race unless you can fix the centering issue or get one that doesn't have this problem.
