Lipo markings
 

When a manufacturer say's their Batt. are say 5000mha at 30c 1P. What does the 1P stand for? Most 10th scale off road use 2S 7.4V. I understand the 2s is for 2 cell and the mha ratings I am familiar with but 1P? One parallel path or something? Thanks

The "P" is for the number of cell in parallel. To say its a 2S1P versus just a 2S doesn't really add anything so most don't use the "P" when there are no cells in parallel.

You will see it only for a lipos that actually have cells in parallel, like a 2S2P. Using the "1P" is strictly correct, but almost no one does it anymore.

So a 2S2P would read 3.7V? And a 4S2P would read 7.4V?

No - S is the nmuber of cells wired in series - series makes voltage add. A lipo cell is 3.7v nominal. Two wired in series - 3.7v + 3.7v = 7.4v, so a 2S is 7.4v.

Parallel makes capacity (mah) double, voltage stays the same. a 2S1P is 7.4v and a 2S2P is also 7.4v. If the 2S1P is 5000mah and the other is made from same 5000mah cells, then the 2S2P is 10,000mah, but still 7.4v.

Wiring cell in series if to increase voltage, wiring cells in parallel is to increase capacity (run time).

2S1P is physically just 2 lipo cells. 2S2P physically is 4 lipo cells - its a pair of 2S1Ps wired in parallel together.
