Brushless ESC Comparison
From the feedback I have been getting it is clear that the Tekin RS is the best ESC on the market. My question is how do these other ESC's compare to one another and the Tekin.
LRP SXX Novak GTB Mamba Max |
Which has the most outright power?
|
GTB: It's an old speed control. Novak has the new kinetic coming out soon that is user upgradable.
Mamba Max Pro: Fast and upgradable but has a large footprint (May not fit in your car). Lowest cost of all the top ESCs. Tekin RS : Low cost (second lowest in cost behind the mamba), user upgradable and one of the fastest ESCs you can buy. LRP SXX stock spec: One of the fastest ESCs you can buy and very easy to program but ..... it's expensive and can't be upgraded. You will need to buy a new ESC to keep up with the latest and greatest software. At the moment it looks like the Mamba, Tekin and SXX stock spec are around the same speed. |
Thanks for the input. i was wondering when novak would come out with a new one bcuz I never hear anyone saying the GTB is a fast ESC, they always talk about the others. Is there any other ESC that is in the class of the other three?

The black diamond ECSs are fast but extremely expensive. They're as fast as the LRP SXX stock spec, mamba and tekn RS but cost twice as much.
LRP SXX stock spec: $220 - $230 Mamba max pro: $110 - $130 Tekin RS: $159 Black Diamond: $350 - $400 I would stay away from the black diamond. You can't upgrade the ESC and you definitely don't get twice the performance for the price you pay. If I had to suggest an ESC it would be a tekin RS. Price is good for the size and performance. Support is top notch, you can always find tekin team drivers or tekin reps on RCtech. You can also expect regular updates to the ESC to keep you competitive, you won't have to buy a new ESC to keep up with the latest and greatest ESCs.

LRP SXX Novak GTB Mamba Max I note that you only have a few posts on RCTech.net so far. You have not described your use (on/off road) or experience (beginner vs. expert). It is easy to answer your question (as has been done already); but, you may not need such an exotic ESC either. One issue about the high performance electronics is that you can overheat and burn up ESCs and motors pretty quickly. Seen it happen almost every race day at my local track lately. Would not want to see that happen here. Not a slight on you; but, your 14 posts in the forums makes me wonder. Bill |
How can an ESC be described as fast?
|
I bought the tekin rs cause of the great customer service, small size, amazing features that it has and because no one has the mamba max pro. Tekin has been around forever where as Im pretty sure castle has not(dont quote me on that but pretty sure) plus it looks like alot of the top drivers are using the tekin's

Yep, This is not a complaint.. just my 2cents
There's several posts now floating around about ESC's, mainly, with the timing advance/Advanced timing etc. I've been a fan of LRP for awhile now. Have all Sphere's. Which it seems need to be upgraded to SXX's it seems. My last race (17.5 2wd buggy) I advanced my Tekin motor to about +20, set my sphere comp to level 6, geared 36p/72s and was blown away by a fellow racer using the SXX with a 17.5 geared 21p/81s .. both cars the same, like powered 2s lipo's.. etc etc .. Had me on the straight (we actually used our warm up laps to compare) and cleared our longest jump with ease while I had to consistantly break up the jump so I wouldnt case the crown of the lander. A friend of mine just purchased a Tekin RS combo which I soldered up for him (lazy punk) ... My ONLY complaint with the RS so far is the posts you solder your wires to. I'm pretty good at soldering (another reason I had to do it for him).. But after doing up that ESC I don't look forward to doing it again..Was soooo close to removing the posts and going direct into the board as with most other ESC's... 2cents and change later... |
I agree those posts look like a pain in the a** to solder onto but i bet once they are it will be well worth it :sneaky:

When the Tekin RS/RS Pro came out, they delivered power on about the same level. But, when Tekin introduced the V203 software, the RS was elevated beyond what the SPX did previously. I have been an LRP ESC devotee for 6-7 years now; but, the Tekin RS is currently the cat's meow for performance. Bill |
I love my lrp 7.1 when i used to run but as I was talking to others they showed me ya they were great then and still are but in two months if something new comes out you would have to buy a new esc. Tekin and castle say hook us to a computer and you will have new software. Its like a long time purchase cause your not always buying an esc each year because new technology which is why I went with tekin also
