I would still write the letter. You may be surprised by the reponse (I've been a few times when I've complained, politely, but strongly about poor service, crappy attitude and just unfair treatment).
If you don't get a response, then you know you're doing the right thing by turning to a competitor.
Sure isn't encouraging, I'm 100% Futaba, but prob not anymore. I try not to support organizations with lousy customer service.

Not sure if the service has declined over the last 12 months at Futaba, but I got a 4PK and 3 receivers from Tower in the fall of 2008 that all had the problems which was with the first 4PK batch. Futaba took it back, checked it and sent me new items fast and with no hassle.
BTW, my 3 Futaba PJ sets from 1996-1998, used in outrigger model speed boats, works without a glitch after all these years. The 3PK I had also worked for hundreds of hours without an issue.
So no issues with Futaba from my side

Same for me. I like Airtronics radios and Futaba servos. The only difference, I'm still using my same old M8 I bought in 1999.
