You can use our XBR esc with any sensored, BL motor.

The Havocs---1S, 2S and 3S---are compatible only with temperature protected motors.

Yup you sure can!

What happens if you do run a non temperature protected motor with a Havoc? That is good info if they don't like to play well.

The esc will not operate. Both components of the system, (the Havoc 2S and spec motor, for example) have temperature sensing components. If the esc does not "see" the appropriate motor connected, it will not operate.

I don't think this is a good decision by Novak. Forcing customers who purchase a Havoc to use a Novak motor as well is a bit heavy-handed.

I went ahead and bought one anyway because right now it's about the most affordable BL sensored ESC out there.

That is bound to change however, and when others become available at a similar price point, who would buy a Havoc when you can't run your choice of motors? Not me... At the very least Novak needs to incorporate a setting to defeat this in the ESC software.

Designing in this protective, over-heating feature is the major reason why this esc/system is "affordable".

We do not have the warranty exposure of customers' interfacing these Havocs with damaged motors, which can (in turn) destroy the controller. Bad motors, weakened rotors can cause major esc damage.

That may be, but you need to remember that customers don't like to have their choices limited. If someone has the choice of buying a Havoc and being forced to run one of your motors, or buying another brand that lets them run any motor they like, it's a cinch the Havoc will still be on the shelf...

Yes, I did buy one, but I will check carefully next time I need one. If there is a more flexible option available, I will not repeat the purchase...

Our Havoc Pro systems and escs were designed to allow the use of any sensored motors; so we are not limiting users to these standard Havoc, temperature-protected products. Customers always have a choice with our controllers and the motors they wish to use.

But we wanted to keep the price of the Havoc 2S Spec/SS Pro systems as affordable as possible, to encourage participation in cost-controlled events. This is the reason we offer these sensored systems.
