Servo Mantenince, upkeep?
 

Is there anything you can do to help upkeep your servo's? I recently installed a Airtronics 94773 In the front of my Tmaxx and want to take as good a care of it as I do the rest of truck. Is there any kind of upkeep or routine mantenince That I can do periodically to prolong the life and keep performance up?

The only thing I know of is to frequently check your steering linkage for binding and check the servo saver for proper operation. A good servo will last damn near forever.

Yes higher end servos are sealed well so they are dust/dirt proof and lubed for life which makes them maintenance free.

I just check servo saver every so often to make sure its working right, check the screw for the horn and make sure its tight, and that strg moves freely without any binding.

Servos are pretty much maintenance free as mentioned.

Set all your end points(EPA), or you will burn it up fast. When the steering has went as far as it can go, the servo keeps wanting to move.

But you need to open and check the greese on the gears. They turn black and gets harden as time goes by. Else you'll have worn gears and overheating servo motor which eventually goes bye bye.

I have been in the hobby on and off for 20 years and have never took a servo apart to clean and re-lube and I have never had any problems. The speeds and range of movement in which a servo operates will NEVER breakdown the lubrication provided from the factory.

Stress kills servos, period.

I haven't been doing it for 20 years but I race alot and if you have the time to do it a little grease on the servo gears will make them last a little longer. I have wore some down to the point that there's slop in the gears. Better yet is to keep a check for any play and replace the gears if you get any play. Alot of racers don't keep servos long enough to see any wear.

But it depends also, some ppl are constantly replacing their servos selling their old ones. For me I after using for 1 year.

The grease changes to black quite sticky like gum. I had the gears cleaned & relube with same type of grease. The performance is much better hence lasted me another few more years. Till now still using...

The fact is time after time manufacturer releases new models. Ppl will be tempted to get new ones. Better speed & response time.
