receiver antenna length question
Hello, I saw a video on youtube about cutting the antenna tube so that when it is on the car its height only reaches to about the same height as the rear body posts and then you coil the remaining antenna wire around the tube. I have been wanting to try this so I could hide the receiver antenna on my nitro car but I was wondering if this will hurt range or anything? The guy says that the range is the same but I was just looking for some more opinions before I try it out. I can't post the url because I don't have enough posts yet but if you want to check it out its like the first result after searching "rc antenna" on youtube.

It takes 2 people to range check an RC, but you might find a friend and range check yours now with teh antenna the way it is. Then change it like you're talking about and range check it again. That will tell you exactly what's going to happen. My guess is it will affect the range, hown much - don't know, but its simple to find out.

If you shorten an RC antenna, you WILL lose range. No two ways about it. Some systems/bands more than others. Only you can decide if the amount of range loss is acceptable. If you are in a racing situation, you will also have more glitches from other RF noise like other peoples engines and radio systems.
