Charger Help!!!
Hey guys need a little help on some charger issues....
Im looking to get a new charger to charge my Lipo's. I have been looking at the Turnigy chargers they seem to have the capability of the higher end chargers at a decent price. I will be charging mostly 2s lipos for my 1/10 offroads. Im not looking to have to buy the charger and then a balancer and then a power supply i would like to find one that comes with atleast a deans lead and a balancer and have no issue with buying a power supply if need be. Im not really on a budget but dont want to spend 200+ either, I will be charging Yeah Racing packs anywhere from a 4000 up to 6000. If you guys can try and lead me in the right direction i would appreciate it, and it can be any style charger i just have been looking at the turnigys. Thanks Mike |
lol. probably the fifth person on this forum i've recommended this charger to, but it's worth checking out....
http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html built-in power supply built-in balancer $60 shipped from the US (got mine in about 5 days of ordering) :) i have one and it's just been awesome. under the skin, it's exactly the same thing as the turnigy charger and most of the budget lipo chargers out there (even ones from the likes of trinity and losi). the only real downfall is that it can only output 50 watts and 5 amp charge rates. for a 2s, it'll charge at 5 amps all day, but for 3-6s packs, it'll hit that 50w wall and the charge rate will be reduced. |
Mike, I have one of the HobbyCity Accucel-6 chargers and its just like you think. It has a builtin balancer and features you don't expect from a $35 charger - storage mode for lipo, fast charge mode for lipo, auto mode for NiMH and more. If you're just doing 2S the chargers 50watts output power will be plenty and you will not see any current reduction with lipos up to 5000mah capacity. You would only be able to charge a 2S 6000mah at 5amps. It will charge fine, but just take a little longer.
HC has a USA warehouse, but they don't offer teh power supplies there. The cheapest route in the IMAX 5amp supply that they offer on same page as the charger. You will need a kettle plug to run it, but suspect you already have one if you have much in the way of electronics around your house. This PS will run the charger at a full 5amps (PS has been tested at over 6amps). The charger does come with an assortment of charge leads including one with Deans. If you want a more powerful charger, the Accucel-6 has a big bro - teh Accucel-8. It s a 150watt output charger and will charge at up to 7amps, it obviously costs more, $65 and will need more power from a PS. HC has one for that charger as well, but its $40. The Accucel-8 and its extra power would cost you $105 + Int'l S&H vs the Accucel-6 and its PS for $50 + S&H. If you even think you need teh extra power, get it now, it'll pay off in the long run. The 8 and its 16a PS they sell for it are all shown on the page I linked. Nothing worse than outgrowing your charger, I know I've done it twice now... |

The Sky Charger is also a 50watt, 5amp charger like Accucel-6. They are not very diff feature wise based on feedback from a few here who've gotten them. These may very well have the same "brains" inside and are just packaged in diff looking boxes. I don't know that for certain, but have read speculation about it in more than one place. One thing I do know is there are a bunch of Accucel-6s on this board and with few exceptions, they are doing a great job! |

As far as the charger, if you don't need to charge over 1C then this is a very good charger. I use it on my SMC 5200 40C and IP5000 40C packs and it works great. The USB connector to view the charge volts on the computer is pretty useless since the charger itself displays all that information. It's worth every penny of $60 and I would highly recommend this. If you want something with a long term warranty I would recommend the Duratrax Onyx 230 at $79.99. Does everything all the other chargers do but doesn't have a built in balancer. Oh, and the sticker that says Skycharger comes off nice and clean. Most of us who run this charger take that sticker off and put something else on it. Can't tell you how many people at my track have asked where I got my "Xray" charger.. =) |

Any thoughts on LRP Pulsar 3 for charging lipos? Any comments on this charger?
|
Looking over the specs, it looks like a better NiMh charger than a lipo charger. And with a 3S limit, its a little pricey for what you're getting, no mention of a storage mode or a fast charge option for lipo. If you're looking to mainly charge lipo, there are more featured chargers for less available.

Hey guys just a heads up... I got the Turnigy Accucell 6....bought it on Friday night on e-bay, not sure if he is a member here househunter100 is his e-bay name but i live in PA and he was shipping from MD got it yesterday.... Ill tell you what for the price i paid $70.00 I got the charger and the power supply with all the plugs that come with the charger... Yea it sounds like alot but, with what Hobbyking would wanna charge you for shipping and such and your turnaround time which your looking like a week or so, to spend the few extra bucks is totally worth it!!! This charger is great and again i wanna thank all who has made this charger choice a little more enlightening. Another thing for anyone who would wanna get this charger, wherever you get it from in the end it more than likely will NOT come with a manual, i believe i just googled the charger and within 2 or 3 listing there was a Whole adobe file you can print, ill warn you it is 21 pages long lol. But again this charger is really user friendly and i would recommend it to anyone who wants to charge any type of battery!!!!
