Default Replace receiver wire?

The extra little piece of wire that hangs out of the antennae tube on my Slash has somehow been torn off. My LHS doesn't have new ones in stock but I've got lots of FM antennae wire laying around.

Can I just replace the receiver wire with plain old FM antennae wire? I know it needs to be 24ga and 24"-30" but I don't know if I can just use what I've got.

This bring up another question too, what do people do with the extra little bit of wire that hangs out of the antennae tube? Is is ok to wrap that down the tube and secure with some tape so this doesn't happen again?

I use a piece of shrink wrap tube to fasten it against the antenna tube

^^^ That's the same thing I do now. Used to use ele tape, but was always coming unwrapped. HS stays put, way better solution.
