Lesson learned the hard way
I now know why the CC manual for my sidewinder said to switch the motor cables rather than reversing throttle/brake on the Tx...
Ran out of range on a top speed run with my 4600kv on 11.1v... head on into a curb with no body at full throttle. Pretty much totalled my TC3 leaving just the shocks, diffs and most of the screws intact, but the worst was the damage to the electronics. The motor can was ripped right off of the cap, the screws just tore right through the metal, the rotor was bent and the bearings damaged as well. Rx shattered but still functions (super-glued back together). Servo completely destroyed. Lipo ripped out of the hard case and wires torn up. ESC is perfectly fine. I didn't even think about it when I flipped the throttle reverse switch, but instead of applying the brakes when I went out of range it went full speed ahead :cry: I guess 10 years off from this hobby have taken their toll. |
sorry for your loss! mind sharing what radio you were using?
oh by the way.. http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l8...06/ttiwwop.gif |
Ouch!!! Sometimes its those little details that grabs you!

I'm sorry that happened man, but I really don't know why people run cars without bodies. They actually offer alot of protection.

I’m confused, if the car lost signal why would the transmitter settings matter? Since it went full throttle without signal, then if you had reversed the motor leads, wouldn’t it have just went full speed in reverse? What am I missing?

No failsafe?

I'm guessing but if he reversed the channel and didn't recalibrate the radio failsafe (rebind) for this, the radio may have set the esc to wide open and not brakes when the failsafe kicked in. Assuming his radio has a failsafe feature (spektrum ect.)
Sorry didn't take any pics though. I started repairing it as soon as I got home. The reason I was running it without a body was that I was still setting it up. Brushless and lipo on pavement require a very different setup than the carpet setup my car had for the last 8 years while collecting dust. Also its a pain trying to set that TC3 up with the amount of torque steer when running with that much power. |
