Ice Back Light

Can someone tell me where to buy a back light and walk me through a installation on my Ice Charger--Thanks Rich

eBay - go to "RC and Control Line" and search Ice charger, more than one pops up. They don't seem to offer instructions with the parts. Maybe you can find a how-to on the 'net somewhere.

BTW, they mean professional install recommended, its not an install for someone that doesn't have the needed skill level. It will ruin your charger if you mess it up and a big tip - DTX doesn't sell the part that gets ruined (screen). Seen lots looking for new screen - basically you almost buy new charger when you send it in for repair.

Yes, I've done several, years ago, mine and several for friends. Sell your Ice and buy a TC1030 charger - its backlighted, but otherwise basically the same charger.

There is no hookup on the mainboard of the ICE for a backlight screen like the Checkpoint. If its been done, people must be using something else.

how about a clipon flashlight , like for a book? or velcro one on.

If you look at the charger they way you would when you use it with the top casing removed, there are (used to be unless there's been changes) 2 large solder pads in the upper left corner that are plainly marked (+) and (-). Thats where the connections are made to power the inverter that supplies power to the back light. Like I said not a job for the squeamish. The delicate part is getting the LCD screen out without breaking it, removing all the goo that was used to secure it, then putting it back together with the new EL piece that provides the illumination and getting the Ice put back together. The LCD screen is 2 thin pieces of glass that are very easily broken.

This was going on in '06 and the kits then were more expensive, but included decent documentation with pix, they were about 2x what the ones on eBay are currently selling for. The guy I got mine from had a good business going for a while.
