Losi xcelorin brushless problems.
I am getting ready to send back to Losi my second 1/18 scale ESC/7400kv motor combo. The ESC keeps burning up after about the 4th battery pack. My motor temp never gets over 165° and the ESC never goes into thermal shutdown protection. The ESC seems to burn up within minutes after changing battery packs and letting everything cool down. I also run the optional ESC cooling fan. I own several other brushless systems, (this being the only Losi setup I have). I can tell you in five years of running brushless systems in everything from Helicopters to cars, I have never had one burn up.
Is anyone else having this problem? If you do have this problem, have you found a remedy? I am suspecting that the Losi ESC's maybe junk? I have seen a few of the Losi 1/8 scale ESC's burn up in a similar situation as mine. |
I don't have any experience with the 1/18th stuff but the 10th stuff works great. The 8th scale systems seem to be one of the better ones out there. The 8th scale guys are really hard on the electronics and I see all the manufactures thermaling and melting down. You need to be careful on how agressive you get with 3S and 4S systems with hot motors.

I am only running 6cell NIMH packs. The weird thing of it is, when the system gives out, the motor is only at about 120° but the esc is at about 190°.
|
That is pretty odd. I know for the 10th scale sensored systems turning down the motor timing will decrease ESC temps drastically.
|
I am using Low motor timing, I am programming 80% throttle limit in the ESC and I am turning the radio throttle ATV down to 80%.
I got this setup new in box with the car I bought. I wouldn't have chose this setup because running a 7400kv motor is totally insane for onroad carpet with this car. I don't know for sure that this second unit burned up or atleast it doesn't smell like it is, but for sure isn't working right. |
Two thumbs up to Losi, they are replacing it for a second time.
|
...and #3 burned up just plugging it into the receiver! WTF? I didn't even get a chance to use it.

There is something else going on. Will your car work with another brand ESC?Sounds like there is a short in the system somewhere else or something else going on. Electronics go bad and all of them will blow up at some point but to go through 3 in quick sucession like that leads me to think something else is bad in the system.

A short ... don't think so.
Junk... They're without any doubt. http://www.rctech.net/forum/radio-el...r-rubbish.html |
