just charged a lipo with my cdr 5000.voltage cut-off 8,4v 8amp charging.

the charger reduced the charging amps to constant voltage charging and is lipo compatible.feeld free to try it with a nimh or nicd if you donīt believe.

Tower says the cdr-5000 is discontinued, wonder when the EVO2 is comming (did I miss the evo1???). anyway they should not even bother releasing it without lipo charging feature...

Hi all,
i have a problem with my cdr 5000, i can tx charge/dx discharge but i can`t dx charge, i see a voltage as soon as the cells are connected. but after about 4 secs the charge function stops.

Can anyone give me some help/ advice.

I'm having a CDR5000 V2.3. I'm completely virgin on Lipo, but at mu club they allow to use.
Can you explain me how set up the charger to use with lipo?

I use a lipo capable chargers.....from what I read, you can only do the CC part of the lipo charge with this charger and if you don't terminate correctly at this point, you can damage the lipo.


Its not made to do lipo.

It does do lipo, just not lipo specific charger. I can change all the parameters like max volt etc. it does cc till 8.4v then the amps slowly taper off. Iam testing an orion 3600 25c lipo. The first stage 8.4v max 3.6 amps, after max voltage is reached the charger shuts off and the pack settles to 8.25v. Second stage 8.410v max 2.0 amps when done the pack settles to 8.35v. third step 8.411v max 1 amp, when done pack settles to 8.39v not 100% charge but close enuff. The orion was discharged to 6.2v before charge and it took 32XX mah and aroud 1 hour to charge so i figure it charged around 95-98%. close enuf for me and the track i race at, I will get some track time on sunday to see how the lipo does In y brushed TC3.I will also see if a fellow racer can put it on his lipo charger after mine and see how close it is to full charge. If anyone cares i will update.
