Default Which Nimh's last longer, 6 cell or 7 cell?

I am in the market for batteries for a Slash and I want to go with cheaper Nimh's at first. Question is, which will get more run time, a 6 cell pack or a 7 cell pack? I know the 7's will be faster since it has more voltage, but won't that essentially drain power from the battery faster? I tried to search but I couldn't find anything. I was looking at some 4500mah packs from Orion since I can get the really cheap. How long will the 6's and 7's last in a box stock Slash? Thanks for any help you can give me.

You’re pretty much spot on. With the same gearing the 7 cell will not run as long, the motor will get hotter too. Not familiar with the Slash, but generally need to gear down, perhaps a couple teeth or so smaller pinion, when going from 6 to 7 cells. Then run time will be similar, but with more punch and a little more speed, at least if you get the gearing adjustment right.

I think the only way to get significantly more run time with 7 is to use a lower power motor to compensate.

Might want to stick with 6 though if you ever plan to race.

your spot on. if you plan to race spec slash you will want to stay with the 6 cell.if you want a teensy bit extra speed try 90 spur with 19 pinion. i like it at westcoast rc in la mirada ca.i use 5100 orion rocket pack, and easily finnish a 7 min main.i'am thinking of trying the 4500.post back with the input on the pack.thanks
