Lipo Help!

I talked to different people and i get different answers. how to store lipos? should i leave them stored fully charged? 50%? 30%? please help any advise would be great. dont wanna mess these batteries up. there not cheap as you all know. thanks

I try to stay between 50-70%.

Sorry for jacking your thread but anybody know if I'm hurting my lipos leaving them full for a week??

Im no expert on this... but base on the characteristic of a lipo... don't make it below 3.0v. So if you store it, it will have a small drain of power... so as long as they don't go below 3.0v it should be okay.

As such, I'd rather store them with 100% or max power in it.

BTW I used to have a lipo that I have forsaken for more than two months... voltage droped to 2.4v if not 2.6v (in one of its cells)... at first I had problem recharging it back to life... so I simply slow charged that cell (0.2Amp max setting) with my B6 set on Auto. When it reached a little more than 3 volts, I stopped the single cell charging and rewired it to be balanced charge (it was 2s1p with 7.4v) normally.

Now that battery is in tiptop condition.

The minimal voltage drop is the key really.
Most will say 70% due to the gradual drop.
I store either fully charged or 70. I "try" to store more at 70 so I get a good fresh charge when its time to run again.. But most times I end up charging to full, planning to run within a day or two... not expecting the rain to hold up for a week straight :(

I've been using 65-75% for storing. Have been told that routinely charging lipo to 100% and then not using it causes damage. I don't think anybody knows the time frame though - leave them a few days, several, a week or two?

When I get finished running, I charge them to 65 - 70% and then recharge before using. I left come stored at 50% for almost 3 months and they all puffed. I don't use 50% any more.

Good to know!

Also on the maxamps lipo care page, it says to cycle it atleast once a month since leaving them on the shelf for a prolonged period of time can cause the packs to get severely out of balance or even go dead.

Charging them to 100% doesn't hurt them... But storing at 100% has a faster voltage drop than storing at 65 - 70%
