The Dangers of switchmode PSU's.

I'd like to inform everyone as someone who fixes electronic devices,
that you need to be careful of your choice of power supply.

Please make sure the vendor uses the earth pin.

Under no circumstances do I recommend the "Muchmore Power Master
World Edition 2"

This 24 Amp PSU is deadly and there is nothing to protect the user
from serious injury. A fault with the unit can possibly make the case
live and or bring the output up to 240V.

Earthing is meant to be used for a reason.

The What? Grounded?

And you are? And why not?

If so, are they aware of it? is there a recall on the units? have you informed them? what gives?

yup indeed more info please on this issue...

in our country we don't even use grounding or earthing for our electronics...and yet I have never heard of anybody getting electrocuted for it. :D

The PSU is typical of the floating variety like those that run laptops.

The PSU in question detonated in my face while I was trying to disgnose it.
Took out the circuit breaker but not the ECLB. Thats why I dont like it.

First time Ive looked at one of these and yes I have sent an email off to the
muchmore guys. We'll see what happens.

So the real story here is not to stay away from Muchmore power supplies, but just not to open them up and play with them.
By the way, I assume you are a qulaified electrical engineer or similar?

Usually anything electrical thats in a metal case needs to have its case grounded via the ground pin on the plug.

Things that are made allmost entirely of plastic don't have to have this but still have certain codes to meet. Running a ground wire to a chunk of plastic wouldn't accomplish much.

So if the MM PSU has a metal case.... then why deosn't it have a ground wire? That's messed up.

Thanks for the tip. I'll stick to my olde Optima battery power supply.
