hyperion charger overheating
i have an eoso606i and i love it. iv had it for about a year now and its a good charger, but last weekend at the track when i went to balance charge my lipo it would get all the way to the checking battery and restart itself. but when i took the balancer off it would charge fine, no biggy so afew days later
(today) i tryed it again her at my house and did the same thing so i put my 4 cell 5000 with a diffrent balancing plug and it was working fine. so i come back to check on it 10 mins later and the charger is burning hot. so im guessing its the power supply. np i can use the dc side of it, but i just want to make sure |
That'd be my guess as well, and its the only thing that makes sense - the power supply is going or gone. No real way to confirm, but sounds like you've now got a DC charger.

i just bought a new one today but the dc only one. and when charging it was around 115 degrees, it was inside the garage with no breez and it was about 95 in there. those that sound normal?
|
Over the weekend my 06061 went bonkers too. Everytime i tried to balance charge a lipo it said the cell voltage was too low. All my lipos are almost perfectly balanced. It would let me charge them without balancing though. All of my batteries received the same response from the charger. Any ideas?

Hyperion has made a big deal about lipo charging connection order - the AB-BA business, saying there is potential for damaging something inside the charger. They want you to connect main power leads 1st, then the balance connection. When finished - reverse order, disconn balance conn, then main power leads. This was detailed on the paperwork released with the v1.6 firmware revision for for 610i Net/DUO chargers. I know its not included in the manual for my 610iNet charger, so it might not be in the manuals for other models either.
They provided a "memory tip" - I have A pack, and Balancer. AB - BA. |
I religiously followed the AB-BA connections with my Duo charger; but, still ended up with the overheating issue.
All it took was one day at the track where the temp was over 95 degrees...and kaput! It still worked; but, became erratic as all get out. Duo went back to Hyperion (in Hong Kong) about 7 weeks ago. Bill |
All I can say is that prior to seeing this AB-BA advice, I had paid it no attention with either of my 0610i Net chargers and both work fine.
Are you still waiting after 7 weeks for warranty issues to be resolved or just repairs?? Thats a long time to be out of a charger...... |

Are you still waiting after 7 weeks for warranty issues to be resolved or just repairs?? Thats a long time to be out of a charger...... Fortunately, I have a lipo-ready GFX that serves me very well. And it charges my 2S/1S packs all the way to 8.44V/4.22V as I like them. My Duo didn't do that. We'll have to see what I'm packing for the IIC in September... ;) As posted some time ago, two other Duos suffered the same fate as mine on that 95 degree day. All three Duos became erratic with the same issues (i.e. screens went blank, fans working intermitently followed by overheating). And one was a very new Duo II. My Duo did serve me well for about 6 months; but, I would think that a product from Hong Kong would be able to hold up to warmer temps. Bill |
Thx DaveH I will try your instructions and get back to you guys. The Great Planes Triton EQ is a copy of the Hyperion has a 5 yr warranty and there service center is located in Champaign IL a couple hours from my house. But I purchased my Hyperion prior to the release of the Triton so I had no choice.
