3pk or 4pk
Ok so I'm finally gonna start racing, and need to upgrade my Spektrum DX 3.0. I was looking at either the 3pk or 4pk. I'm only gonna race two classes for now, mt and 1/8 buggy, and was thinking the 4pk is overkill for me. Is the 3pk good enough? I know the 4 is fast, is the 3 fast enough? And i sure don't need all the features the 4pk has on it, but that radio will prolly be my last for years to come. Advice? Thanks...

The 3PK super with FASST is more than enough radio, slip in a 3S 2600 LiPo pack and you're good to go. (Tru RC pack around $40). I have two 3PKs, an original and super, and use them with Spektrum modules. Horizon is clearing out the Spektrum Pro Module/Rx for Futaba at $100. You can get a brand new 3PKS without module/Rx for under $200. The biggest thing you won't get that the 4PK has is the 4th channel. |
Whoa, you're stationed in Japan!!
You can get some killer deals there. Go for the 4PK if you can get a deal if not the 3PK will serve you well. |
Yeah I live in Japan, unfort for me I live on a small island called Okinawa. So everything here is even more expensive than in the states! My local hobby shop only carries Sanwa/Airtronics radios anyways...and the new M11x is over 500 bucks...I refuse to pay that much for that radio.

Sorry to hijack,
What's the difference between the original 3PK and the "super"? I've been out of the hobby for four years, and I still have my 3PK -- is that upgradeable to "super", and if so, what benefits? EDIT No need to answer that. "SEARCH" was my friend... should have used that before barging in. Apologies for the (unnecessary) hi-jack. Cheers! FWIW, the 3PK was overkill for me, but I wanted it anyway. I don't even race. That said, the 4PK might be "too much radio" -- my analogy is this: if you're a podium finisher in the races you enter (or you're a national/top driver), then maybe every millisecond in response time, or whatever, is important -- if one is still full seconds off the pace, then it's track time/practice that will make more of a difference than new high-tech equipment. |
Think I'm just gonna have to get the 3pk. It has everything I need and it's 2.4ghz which my track requires. now for the practice part...
