Eqinox balancer question

I have a equinox lipo balancer I use with my triton jr charger, however hooking it to my losi lipo rec pack the balancer lead has more wires than the balancer lead on the pack, also the balancer only see's 1 cell. I'm wondering if I need another balance adapter.
I contacted great planes support, they weren't any help at all, they said they weren't familar with the losi, that I should contact losi, Any help would be appreciated.

Just looked into this recently for another poster - the losi rx balance connector takes the JST or Align style balance tap. The Equinox is supposed to come with the ElectriFly style adapter which is the same as the JST or Align balance tap. The balancer comes with a 2S and a 3S adapter, are you using the 2S? This is supposed to work, should be what came with balancer -

this usually helps.

Yes I am using the 2s adapter, if you look at it it has 2 reds and 3 blacks, the losi balance plug has 1 red and 2 blacks. just like the diagram gulio posted. The problem is, when plugged in only 1 cell light turns on, it should be 2. Thanks

The two outer red are common and the two outer blacks are common. OR to say it another way. The two outer pins/wires are for the discharge leads(red and black) Even though the equinox has 5 wires it only uses 3 of them when it connects tio the adapter for Align taps. The Align tap should only be a 3 pin connector.

I am guessing that perhaps you have the hi-power adapter instead of the regular one. If so it has two loose wires (the two outer ones) that get hooked to the pack's discharge lead.

Are we sure that the Losi comes with the JST, electrifly, align,XH, type taps? It is a rectangle female with two tangs on one long side and uses a (cell+1) config. The male connector looks like a rectangle jack-o-lantern mouth with a set of teeth (cells +1 config) that would be 3 teeth I think.

Is this your rx pack?

This is my pack.

It may not have anything to do with it, but what is the charge protection?

Dieselpower 06-10-2009 08:53 PM

Couple questions......
1) have you used the balancer successfully with other packs?
2) Which type of balance are you trying to perform.....interface or quick?

I only ask, because if you balance the pack either way.....it'll only illuminate 2 LEDS once, when the pack is first plugged in and/or the balancer is turned on. When the balancer is actually doing it's thing, it'll only have the LED for the cell it is currently balancing illuminated.

I've been using an equinox for 3 years or so now and love it. I use it with electrifly plugged packs as well as hyperion and flightpower. I used it only once in quick balance mode......which took about 7 hours, so the interface mode is actually quicker.

This is the only lipo I have, so no never tried another pack,it seems to work in both interface and quick mode, it just worries me when I first plug it in it only sees 1 cell, also in interface mode only 1 cell blinks as its balancing, I would think cell 1 would blink and then cell2 as the individual cells were being balanced.
Thanks for all the help.

If you have a DVM, check cell voltages thru the plug - see if the voltages confirm what the balancer is implying - that 1 cell is at max voltage and the other is under.

Lipos can change as they get older and have a bunch of cycles behind them.

Equinox is supposed to confirm the number of cells when plugged in. Do you have the manual? If not you can download it from duratrax.com

Dieselpower 06-12-2009 07:02 AM

If the cells are way out of balance....it'll take a while to get em back to equal. You may not be seeing the cell 2 light blink as it's the one that's under-charged so the balancer is only pulling juice from the loaded cell.
If it's only reading one cell upon initially plugging it in, either the pack or balancer might be damaged. If possible, try to borrow or use someone elses lipo or balancer to try and isolate your problem. If your LHS is worth its salt, they should be willing to help you diagnose the problem as well, without spending a bunch of dough on stuff you don't need.

I had this problem before with my equinox and basically the light was not working. I exchanged it and it was fine. But the light didn't work on any battery. I don't think you can change to light so if you can just take it back to where you bought it.
