Help building 8-cell pack
 

Hey guys, I owe my brother a battery pack so I am building him an 8-cell 4200mah pack from some good Integy Intellect cells I matched myself with my Onyx 230. I am not at all good with building battery packs because I've never done it before. Therefore I need some help with this. I plan on doing
basically a hump pack but side by side. Anyone who can help, please do.

Not sure I ujnderstand what you mean by s-b-s hump pac? This would be 3cells on top of 5, or 2 on top of 6??

You have batt bars, a good soldering iron, cell shrink and etc?

Just to confirm I need help on how to set up the polarity etc.. It's going to be either 7 cells on bottom 1 on top or 6 cells on bottom 2 on top.

Yeah I have battery bars, a 60watt soldering iron and the cells are already cell shrank, and I'm putting Traxxas connectors on it for my and my brother's Stampede VXLs. So basically it has to be 6 on bottom 2 on top?

No, it can be any thing you want it to be, it could be 4 on top of 4, there's no "set" config. I was really asking you what you were wanting to build? What do you have room for? My Emaxx can fit 7 cells flat, so I'd use a single on top, it all just depends.

The prob is the conn to the top row of cells with the bottom ones, actually its not prob, its just making it work with the bars.

I think he modded his Stampede's chassis like I did mine so we can fit 7 cells on the bottom and whatever probably like 4 or 5 on top but that's over the VXL-3s' limits. I WANTED to try a 7/1..

Cool, thats prob simpliest. Bar will reach 8th cell set in between 2 cells on the bottom row (usual way) or if you have to can place 8th cell directly on top of cell at the end. I've always used something like shoe goo to help hold cells together - I don't reply on just the bars, but I don't use an external cover of heat shrink either.

Build the 7 cells s-b-s, the decide which end is best for the 8th cell, may not make a diff. Look at his chassis and see which end of the pac the wiring needs to be on. One way to wire this - one of the main wires will come off the bottom row, the other off opposite polarity side on the top cell. The other way, you'll have 8th cell connected by two bars and main power wires will both come off the bottom row at the other end of the pac.

I see what you want to do now - you want the hump cell included in the pac and not just added on as an 8th cell on a 7 cell flat sbs pac. When you reach the himp cell, bar will go up and conn with it and at rear of hump cell, bar will go down to connect with next cell.

What I've always done is "trace" the pac - start at a + and trace thru the cell to the neg and across where bar would be to the next and so on. It has to flow correctly polarity wise or the pac won't work.

Looks like 3 is closest to working. From right to left when you get to cells 6 and 7 on the bottom, they need to be reversed in polarity. Place cell 6 so the
neg os toward bott of pic and cell 7 so the + is toward bott of pic.

Okay, I'm about to post a picture of what I interpret that to be.. I think it may be right now because all I have open after is one neg and one pos.
