Default 17.5 novak BL vs. 27t stock brushed motor

What are your guys' opinions on running these... at our local track you can run either in stock classes, I have heard that the brushed motor has a little more punch but i really like the (almost) maintence free BL motor.. ill be runnin this in a T4 FT. thanks!

A good 27t will be a tick faster than a 17.5 but I too like the reliability and constant performance of BL. I have run both and they seem to be a fair match running together.

I think a well tuned 27t brushed motor has the advantage over a 17.5 brushless still.. but it takes a lot of effort to be fast with brushed. The 17.5 brushless is consistently fast when geared correctly.

If you are just starting out, go brushless... it's way easier!

good point, the brushed motors can be a hassel if you dont know how to break them in properly. Also, the brushless motors are way more consistent. If you gear the brushless motor just right, it can be faster than any brushed motor in a race.

Default Gear ratio

What type of gear ratio do you guys run with a Novak 17.5 in Stock?

I have gotten down to 3.25FDR (61mm rollout) at one time on a bigger track but was worried if the motor could handle it. With the bigger LRP fan the temps never got over 120f so that was not a concern.

Whats the lowest anyone has run?

I run a 5.01 FDR but that is for a indoor carpet track on my b4, and with foam tires smaller than normal b4 tires. This is a small track so I could gear is probally to a 4.5 with the foams. When I use rubber I use 6.2 FDR.
