3PKS PCP VS PPM
Hello,
What is the difference in PCP VS PPM. Which is the better of the two? From my understanding the only difference I know off hand is that the failsafe only works in PCP mode for the 3PKS. I am currently running a Spektrum 1000 DSM module and receiver with Hitec digital Servos. I dont have the money for a 2.4hgz spectrum HRS system. So which of the two is best for me. Can someone please help clear this up. Im sure others have the same questions. |
Of the FM modes you question the oldest is PPM - its also the slowest. The other mode is PCM - pulse code modulation, which came after PPM, is faster and transmits more information. Then came HRS mode - High reposnse speed which requires the use of digital servos, this is the fastest of the FM modes.
Failsafe is available only for HRS/PCM modes. |
Oh ok,
So PCM is faster then PPM. So will PCM work with a Spektrum DSM 1000 Module and receiver? Also what will work with the AM MINIz module. Thanks for all your help. |
I just looked at my Futaba 2.4Ghz system instructions and it says PPM or HRS. Thats what Futaba selected for modes to run the 2.4 systems. I'd be guseeing, but I'd assume that those same two modes will run the Spectrum as well.
All you need is to find some instructions from a 3PK Spectrum module. |
I have the Spektrum module in my 3PK and the instructions say to set your radio in PPM mode.
|
That clears it up then, PPM it is....Thanks

Manual (page 7) says "Never use non-digital servos with HRS receivers. Severe damage to all electronics may result, including the possibility of a fire".
That advice is in a highlighted box to make sure you notice it. This might be diff for FAAST, but I tend to doubt it as FASST is just a diff tx module and rx. I'll check the instructions that came with my FAAST module/rx to see if it says anything diff, I can't find those instructions online. |
