Is a 20c lipo enough for mod classes? What is 20c? Is 25c better?

the c rating is the discharge rate...20c is fine for tenth scale use...I use 20c for my mod(3.5r) motors in 2wd truck and the batteries dont even get warm...25c is better but in tenth scale 20c is fine...

from everything i have read and my own experiences 20c is a bare minimum

I raced 2wd truck mod w/ a 15C battery and it's more than enough. I've recently bought SMC 28C batteries though to give my Slash more punch. 20C is more than enough for most if not all 1/10 applications.

I run the 3800 30C Orion Battery and I love it. Great power and long runtimes.

So a 28c lipo has more "punch" than a 20c lipo?

So give or take, how long does the 3800 orion battery last for run time?

I run an Orion 3200 20c pack in my XXX-4 mod... It is plenty fine! I have run everything from a 3.5bl and 9t brushed single... I have tried other higher C rating LiPos and find NO difference in power or handling.

I think it comes down to the quality of the packs. Most of the guys at my track that complain about lower C ratings are using cheaper packs. Nobody seems to complain at all about their Orion/Kokam packs.

I think you get what you pay for.

from my 4900 25c compared to my 3800 30c i think there is a few minute difference between the two. i havent looked at the clock before and after but the runtime is noticeable. the 3800 is lighter and i think faster too. with a 17.5 motor i could tell a world of a difference because im clearing jumps a foot farther with less of a running start.

I know, I have 2 of them and I don't think I will ever have to buy another pack.:tire:

You said it. The 3800 is lighter making it feel faster but it is not.0

It gets old explaining that higher C ratings does not mean it can push more, it means the system can draw more from the battery. Just like a car battery. Your car doesn't PUSH 675 amps to the starter, the starter draws that amperage. If batteries "pushed" amps electrical systems would be a whole lot more complex. 1/8 scale brushless system draw heaps of current, 1/10 not nearly as much. You'll know if you're drawing more than your batteries can deliver because they'll either get really hot or go poof.. or both. :D Your ESC could also shutdown if it cannot get enough current, not really a problem often but it can happen. Get the highest C rating you can afford, as higher C ratings also means higher quality lipo cells (usually, not always).
