capacitors on motor

In the evx-2 instructions it says to use capacitors btw the + and motor can the - and motor can and btw the + and -. But it does not say what size. I'd like to just run to radio shack and pick some up, but what do I get?

Thanks guys, I know I ask a lot of stupid noob questions, and you've been a huge help.

I can't remember what type of cap they are supposed to be, but maybe this will be of some help:

But most brushed motors these days have caps built into them I think.

Thanks.

These motors aint new. They is about 15 years old, but unused.

JMO keep those vintage motors in their new conditoin and buy a new motor. They'll never be new again...JMO

Depends on the motor, some of the older Reedys or Revolutions for example can be attractive to shelf queen collectors. Especially if they match box art cars, or say Worlds winning cars featured in the mags.

If you want a cpapcitor you need something over the voltage you are using, which is easy as it's only about 7.2 volts. Use a 50 volt capacitor. 0.1 micro farad capacitors are fine. You can use 0.01 micro farad, but it doesn't make a lot of difference.

Just get 3 of them for about $1, and solder them as you mentioned.

If you have a motor with adjustable timing, or a re-buildable motor, you don't want to solder to the can, as you will have to un-solder them every time you strip the motor. There SHOULD be a solder tab on one of the screws hat hold the end-bell on to the motor.

Good points JR. If you do need to solder to the can (non rebuildable fixed timing, usually a stocker) grind off a spot of the shiny surface on the can before attempting to solder.

Yep there is.

I don't think these motors are worth nothing, cause if you google it you come up with nothin.

They are old duratrax powerline wet magnet modified motors.

Just want to get the truck going then I'll look into new motors. But for now it will make it go.

Does it make any performance difference btw sizes or does it help glitching more or less with different sizes?

racer1812 01-23-2009 02:13 PM

Now JMO.. Use'em up they aren't worth anything. Duratrax:(:(

If you go too small in the voltage, they will cook. The glitching is best stopped by just making sure they are soldered wll, and you use 3 of them in the "triangle" configuration. There are more tricks to reduce glitching too, if you need them.
