Wasn' the VooDoo a 6 turn drag motor or something like that? My friend had one back in the day. Crazy fast in a 10L. :D

I remember them. They were mostly designed for the electric drag cars. Not sure what motor they were based on but they were stupid fast.

Tom Aument (not sure on spelling anymore) was his name. I use to race for him back in the day. Super nice guy. I ran his stock and mod motors on the dirt ovals. I really liked racing for him.

If memory severs me correctly they lived in Michigan not too far from Detroit. Possibly the Flint area of MI.

Yup that was him, I was good friends with his 2 sons and dated his daughter.

He built some bad ass engine, I actually got my hands on one before they moved.

Unfortunately I got word via facebook that Tom passed away, I don't know the details.

I have one. Awesome motor. I also have a ad from an old R/C magazine. They were called AJ's Black Magic VooDoo and had a crazy RPM rating.

Are you guys referring to this? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Fantom-B...item45f048af2a

I remember those, they where in competition to the Twister motors... I had a 80,000 RPM Twister, lasted about 2 minutes if that on 7 cells.

Apologies for the year old necropost. :o Joev is my friend, and I found and directed him to this thread after he told me about his old school RC adventures.

I'm hoping he can dig up that motor for me. I have some of the Tamiya re-releases, and that motor would look great hanging off the back of one of them.

What is the lowest turn (highest rpm) motor currently available?

Racecrafter 05-12-2010 05:40 PM

2 Attachment(s)
102,000? Thats it? Hahahaha.... :)

Here one I use to produce back in 1993-1997.

It's Samarium Cobalt and this particular motor held speed and ET records in MHRA (12t) in the hands of Mike and Larry Lockman as well as NORRCA for NASTRUCK (9t) in the hands of Daryll Lane on the high banks of the RD Velodrome.

This one has a 6 turn armature and has a Kv rating of 21667..... :D

It was tested at 5v and turned over 108,000RPM with 14.9in/oz of torque all the way through it's RPM range.... The turbo dyno couldn't hold it and maxed out at 14.9 LOL! The Fantom Dyno gave us the RPM.

Now just imagine the 12 turn we used in MHRA with 20 cells attached!!!

24V x 12100 = 290,400 RPM!! (Of course it never saw this as roll out in 132' with gear reduction only allowed the motor to turn over a little over 600 times) anywho.... Enjoy.
