Are most 2.4 radios equal?
 

Im looking at buying a new radio and was needing to know which budget systems are better. The most important thing is glitching i am running indoors in an all metal warehouse and the old AM is killing me!

if i was you, i would get a futaba 3pm 2.4 fasst system, its cheap(200$), reliable, and amazing. It has every feature you would need and can use digital servos, it can use analog servos when on ppm mode but when on hrs mode, it can only use digital. your other option would be the airtronics mx-3 fhss system, same things but the 2.4 ghz is slightly different than the fasst system from futaba, both are good.

pros

airtronics: 150$, different look

futaba: 200$, most reliable


cons

airtronics: different type of system, and is heavier

futaba: ugly, alittle more money.

Just wondering why you wouldn't recommend a Spektrum DX2.0 for $169?

I have 2 and I'm happy with them.

If you need 2 receivers, the DX3.0 isn't a bad deal at $249

Or you could pick up a used M11 with spektrum for around $200 all day long

Don't know that anyone actually answered your question. I think all the 2.4 radios will get rid of your glitching problems. After that there are numerous different features in the different radio systems. People will have their own preferences. Do you want lots of model memory, light weight, telemetry, easy of adjustment, size of reciever, etc. Just do your best to do your homework up front. You should be able to read all the manuals on the vendors websites.

Be aware of the price of the recievers. Futaba 2.4G 3 ch recievers run 90-100 new, and go for about 70 used on eBay with fierce competition.

If you really like what you see about the Futaba radios, consider grabbing a used 3PKS with 2.4 module and reciever. They go for about $200 and some change on eBay. Virtually the same price as a new 3PM-2.4G. Many seem to be pretty well cared for especially since the first owners paid a lot for these bad boys new and treated them well. You probably won't see a used 3PM-2.4G system go for less than $150...because the reciever alone maintains a lot of the value of that system. So really I think these top shelf transmitters on the used market are the best deals going right now. Particularly since the new 4PK has probably pushed more of these 3PKS systems into the used market.

If you are looking to stay cheap, the losi rtr ones are cheesey but the get the job done.

They work well. Get the one from the Speed-T, as it also has EPA adjustments as well as Dual rate for steering. Also only needs 4 AA's like the newer DX3R & DX3S.....

I think all 2.4 would help your issue out. For a "budget" radio some of the above mentioned are great deals!

That is the airtronics. It's a nice, cheap radio. I think you can use a 10% off coupon with it and get it for $152 and free shipping since it;s over $100. Maybe give them a call and double check.

Futaba has a nice one as well for a little more($199).

I tend to lean toward the Losi\Spektrum stuff as all the Rx are compatible with all the radios except the DX3R...and think of how many Losi RTR's come with a 2.4Ghz out of the box now.....

Speed-T, Desert Truck, Mini LST2, Mini Slider...Etc

Correcting myself....DX3R is compatible with all the older Rx's....i was thinking of the new DSM2 Rx that is not compatible with the older radios...

I just made the switch from AM to 2.4 and it has been glitch free, it is also nice not to have to worry about someone stepping on your freq.

As far as how the radio works, and all I can say for myself I have seen no differences in the AM vs 2.4 in how everything works. Some say its faster, slower....whatever. I can't tell a difference and I ran them back to back.

I got the Futaba for one reason....all of my surface stuff from day one has been futaba and I have always had great luck with them. As to the cost of a receiver, granted they are not as cheap as a cheap receiver, but if you look at name brand receivers they are only about $30 more then a FM receiver.

Always gets me people will spend the big bucks on motors and batts, then scrimp on the receiver for their high end radio.

I am going to run the RTR 2.4Ghz Speed-T radio for a while, until I can get enough A Main credits to get me a DX3S. :D
