Default Why is this here?? *pic*

I haven't been into RCing in many years. Even then I was just starting to learn. (kids can put a hold on things sometimes. lol) I am starting to get back into it a little. Everything I have was bought used. I have just acquired a used Losi touring car.
Moral of the story....I was moving the electronics over and was doing some rewiring, and when I took the tape off this connector this is what I found. This was a connector that went from the speed control to the motor.
What the heck is this for??????

That's a capacitor. Back in the day we used to put them directly on our motors to help with glitching. That would be my guess?

I am assuming then that it is unnecessary. I am going to remove it. My other car doesn't have it. I thought it might be there to add an extra little boost on take off. idk. Thanks for the reply!!

What ESC is it hooked to? That might give us a clue if it is necessary.

Is that the optional but recommended Schottky diode??? I forget what they look like. Thought they were in line but I'm not sure.

If not and it is a capacitor, which it what it looks like, probably just trying to replace one of the three that goes on the motor.
