I've been using one for at least a couple of years with no troubles, and it'd be my guess that the people having trouble using them aren't following the directions and that if there truely was a problem with them Novak would have long ago pulled the product or redesigned them. ;)

Check out this LIPO SHIELD from Common Sense RC.

Specs:
Model: LipoShield
Specifications: Input voltage: 1s to 12s Lithium or Lithium Polymer
Cutoff voltage: 3.0V/cell
Weight: 3.5g/.13oz
Works with all ESCs
Applications: Any plane without an effective lithium cutoff.

For $20 and 1s to 12s seems like a better deal then the Novak. I just ordered one from my LHS. I'll post a review once I get it.

Any specific questions, you can email [email protected].

I have not heard of any problems using the Smart Stop lipo cut off modules.
