Lipo pack 2 cell at 5.87V. Problems?
hello
I forget to charge my 2cell 2000mah lipo pack and the voltage went down to 5.87 V. I tried to recharge it but I got an error on the MRC 989 Super Brain, it says Error Voltage. Did I hurt the battery? How can I charge it again? |
the pack fell below the 6v(3v per cell) safety limit set by the lipo charge mode. You must set the charger in nimh mode 6 cell at .3 amp.
Charge the pack until it reads more than 6 v....You must watch this step because if the pack gets more then 8.4v you will cause a fire..... Once the pack is above the 6 volts stop the charge and reset the charger for the lipo pack and charge like normal. |
there's ur 1st issue. its specifically stated by most (if not all) lipo retailers to NOT CHARGE with MRC chargers. i know 1 person who has suffered 2nd deg burns and another sans his house b/c of those chargers and lipo. they say they can, they cannot. get rid of it or stop using lipo.
they keep changin/updatin their chargers to try and figure it out. quickly canning the old models after all the issues. play it safe and go another route (ie ICE or astro 109). R |
If you have any hope of reviving the battery, and want to keep your house or whatever, use a balancer for at least the first charge. When you run a lipo all the way down the chances of significant imbalance go up dramatically.
|
I charge it in NIHM mode as you said, and then switched to Lipo mode, the pack got back to life again.
That was a big fault of mine.. just for the balancer, what you guys recommend? This pack don't have a plug to balance, but my others pack do.. just in case I want to buy the balancer to be safe. thanks for all |

can someone recommend a lipo balancer that is compatible with the 989 Super Brain?
thanks a lot  |
I am thinking on this one
http://www.electrifly.com/chargers/gpmm3160.html seems excellent, but I'm newbie with eletronics, therefore someone can tell me if it compatible with the MRC 989 Super Brain? I also checked Hyperion EOS LBA10 Network Blancer (6S/10A) http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/cba-balancers.html by Thunder Power Need your advice guys :p |
Balance
If you don't have a tap to balance it then you won't be able to balance it. I use a astro flight blinky and like it. If you don't have a way to balance it i would watch it while charging and take it off the charger when it reaches 8.4 volts .

The Equinox and LBA10 are the same balancer IIRC, and both are good ones.
Glad you managed to get your lipo back - watch it carefully the next few cycles to be sure there were no adverse efects from the overdischarge. |
I have two packs of Protek RC that have a balancer connector, just need to indentify what is the connector type.
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/13508 http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16869 I also have 1 2 cell 1300mah Pack (no balancer connector) and 1000mah 3 cell |
I'm using one of the 3300mah 3S Protek lipos AMain sells and it uses the same connector that Align, DualSky, E-Flight, Electrifly and others use. It is labeled "JST XH adapter". Here's a listing - tap config guide-

What i also like about the proteks they can be charged at 2c

R If your battery does not have a balance plug there is no need to buy a balancer. Most transmiter lipos do not come with a balance jack because the current draw is so small that the batteries hardly ever have to balanced. Not sure about receiver batteries. I believe the excess heat from either engine or speedo may warrant the need to balance the pack. Commonsenserc sells a stand alone balancer for about $30.00 you just have to find the proper harness to matched the battery to the balancer. Pass you soon... |
