it was ho but not too hot to touch. Ive had Nimh batteries much much hotter. I never got to run on the battery lol. I was testing in my culdesac and was only a couple minutes into it and it happened. Luckily I was running without the body on it back and for and say the battery strap blow off...with the body on I might not have seen it and continued running to gawd knows what damage.
Boy I hope I dont have to trash this battery. If so I think ill sell my other 1 and stick to Nimh. These are my first lipo because they scare me a bit. |

Your 7700 geared 19/86 in is simply pulling too many AMPs from the battery. This combination will tax even NiMH.
There is not a "low cost" lipo on the market that will not puff with this setup. If you want to run a 7700 i would suggest dropping down the pinion about 5 teeth to begin with. |

Unless the charger goes bad, or doesn't have regulating control like many cheaper chargers.
Very true. You do get what you pay for........unless it's Much More.:sneaky: |

I have experience with this issue. You have pulled more amps than that battery can deliver. In my opinion those lipos are overated on the c rating. The 7700 will pull around 70 amps when geared hard. I did back to back tests with a 3600 poly rc 12 c and it preformed about the same as the one you have. They will usually shut down before they puff up though. If it's swelled it's done and i would not use it and dispose of it right away. A low turn brushless needs a higher capacity battery with a c rating that lets you pull 100 amps or more to be safe.

I think you just had a rare bad pack.... it's done... no chance of it getting better..
I have used my Orion 3200 in my XXX-4 on a 9x2 mod and a 3.5 Novak Brushless.. many many times.. after practicing or racing the pack is not hot.. it's barely over the ambient temp outside... As for NiMh.. i still like them and use them.. ya they have a bit more maintenance required.. not too big of a deal. i have all the gear.. I can usually get 8 months to a year out of a pack before they get moved to "practice only" or retired. I haven't had my LiPos for a year yet.. so I am very curious to see the lifespan. They cost 2-3 times more than a NiMh.... so.. the jury is still out! Good luck and let us know what Orion says! Jerome :tire::tire: |
amp draw
I'm sorry i forgot to mention that in offroad it won't matter as you are not pulling alot of amps except for short bursts.

I got it back from orion today and they said they re-balanced it, charged and tested it and all is good. Ill try it out and see what happens. I trust their word, cause they could have just sent it back saying it was toast and I was SOL cause I had done somethign wrong or something. Im very impressed with their customer service cause turn around was really good considering the distance it had to travel.

Cool deal!
