MRC SuperBrain 989 back-light soon to be!

I had asked if the ICE charger back-light kit could possibly work in the MRC 989 and this is the response I received.

Dear silversuki,

This kit doesn't fit the mrc charger, we are developing the kit for
your charger it will be ready in a week and you can buy it in our
store http://www.caribbeancustomdesigns.com/store/index.php?

thanks

Sounds good to me and it looks like a lot of people are happy with the ICE kit. I just wanted to let anybody know that was looking to do the same.;)

Thanks for the info. The MRC 989 has been a great charger.

Many of our team drivers are now installing them as well, they work really well.

I have a Superbrain 989 and when I charge my 2000mah lipo Losi 7.4v 2cell it starts to trickle charge around 8.05 to 8.14. I have know idea why it won't register 8.40. I'm charging it as a 2000mah 2cell lipo at 2.0 amps. Any ideas on this would be great. Thanks

My guess and it's only a guess is that the lipo is getting tired. I've had some stop at like 8.3+/- but never that low.

.

It's probally the same problem with all the MRC chargers. They have a very poor voltage detection cicuit. Meaning the voltage displayed on the screen does not match the actual voltage of the battery. As a safe guard most MRC chargers do not bring the battery up to 100% voltage. I've had 2 MRC 977 chargers and they both on an average only charge a 2s up to about 8.24 vdc then it trickles. I would take a good voltmeter and measure the battery voltage of the lipo then place it on the charger(without starting the charge cycle) and see how close the actual battery voltage is to the displayed voltage.
It's seems to be a crap shoot with MRC chargers. I've had a 969 updated with 977 software and it was dead accurate. I had a MRC 977 that read about .55 vdc too low. It would charge a 3s lipo to about 13.02 vdc!!! while the charger only displayed a voltage of 12.49vdc. The one I have now is about .2 volts too high. It will only charge a 2s up to 8.24 vdc.(the charger displays 8.4 but the actual battery voltage is only 8.24 vdc.
If you do search; on the forums;there are other members who have had this same issue with MRC chargers.
