Motor wire extension?
Bear with me here, I'm a newbie...
I'm looking to install a Novak GTB/13.5 BL into my MF2. I bought the system used and though it looks to be almost new, the previous owner cut the motor wires pretty short. I need about 2-3 more inches to reach the motor. Is there any problems with extending the wires? Is it a bad idea to attach connectors to the end and solder the extension to each of my motors with connectors on the ends for easily switching out motors? |
Shouldn't be a problem to extend the wires. Or just replace them from the GTB board, they are designed to be replaced. Just be sure that no wires or solder crosses over between the tabs on the GTB. And if adding to the wires, or adding connectors use heat shrink tubing to protect any bare wiring.
Connectors are OK, be sure to use good quality ones, an keep an eye on them. Get in the habit of looking for any loosening or lack of solid connection each time you use them. |
I'd personally replace the wires straight from the board, just don't leave the iron on the pads for too long and use a hot iron (less time with heat applied)
Soldering wires together to extend them is pretty dodgy :) |
Thanks for the advice. I've decided to try to replace them directly on the ESC, I'm just nervous because I'm not the best at soldering.
