motor suggestion on dagger chassis
 

Hello guys,

i need your ideas on what motor will i use on my tamiya dagger chassis.
I want a brushed 27T motor just like the johnson but i want the end bell will be opened for cleaning.

As we all know, this chassis has dual motor and each motor runs opposite to the other to make the truck run in forward or reverse.

Also, as i know, running a motor in reverse has different speed compared to running it in forward. ( as i know :sweat:)

so, what motor will i use in this chassis?

Perhaps you could combine the cans and endbells from 2 budget modified motors that allow for adjustable timing. Then use 27T armatures, and adjust the timing equal and opposite. Unless you can find a reverse rotation rebuildable stocker. I think I saw these back in the day, not rebuildable thou, but haven't noticed any lately.

I used a single motor variation of this to get my son started. A stock arm in a mod can with very little timing, and really low gearing. Reduced speed, increased motor and battery life. Even with tired old 1400s it would go for nearly 30 minutes with very little brush/comm wear.

I think the motor you are referring as not rebuildable and in reverse rotation is from kyosho, i forgot the name of the motor (Mayhem, i guess). I was looking at those motors in store but i havent found any on-stock.

Dave, what timing (or how many degrees) do you suggest in my application?

Depends on what ya want. More timing equals more RPM, more heat, more battery drain, more brush and commutator wear. Stock is 24 degrees, I certainly wouldn't recommend going past that. Even though we did back in the day for stock racing before locked comms, but motors didn't last long. For general playing around try maybe 10 to 15 degrees or so. That will give ya some zip without too much wear and tear.
