Blown Speed Control. Blown Reciever?
 

Hi Everyone,

I'm reletively new to racing (been doing it about 4 months). I blew out my speed control last night in a race (flames and everything :flaming:). I have another speed control that I can use. It's an old Tekin mospower. I can't find any documentation on it so I'm not sure I have the pinouts correct for my reciever. But when I plug the Tekin into my reciever I get nothing. I've tried changing the pins to match what I believe is the correct alignment, but I still get nothing. Can blowing a speed control also blow out your reciever?

i'm not sure you can blow the reciever like that. in the past and present iv'e hooked up my motor for my batt and vise versa on a old tekin, and just blew the speedo, and i also hooked bad servos up and blew speedo and not reicever, (:weird:weird)and yes blew a rooster out with a very low turn motor (long time ago) and my reciever was fine so i don't think your reciever should be bad i could be wrong

considering that the ESC supplies power to everything, it is theoretically possible, but is almost unheard of.

Try another reciever or ESC. you should be good from there.

Possibly the best way to test a receiver is to use a receiver battery. Every radio I have came with a 4 AA battery holder, try that, see if the steering servo works.

As far as wiring order, you should be able to match up the wiring colors of your 2 speed controls. May not match exactly, but usually includes red +, black or darkest hue -. The signal wire is usually either white or blue I think.

For almost every receiver out there, the wiring is:

Ground (black or brown wire) closest to edge of receiver
Positive (red or orange wire) middle of the three
Signal (white or yellow wire) furthest from edge of receiver

If the plug has the little ridge on it (like Futaba plugs) the signal wire (white or yellow) goes closest to that ridge, the ground (brown or black wire) goes furthest from that ridge.

Old Airtronics receivers had a different wiring order, but they haven't made them that way for years.

Old KOs were different as well. Some 18 years ago in my case. Not sure if they were the same as Airtronics, but I think they were, I seem to remember there was one other brand that was different than Futaba.
