Thunder Power 610C

I just got mine. Still learning the ropes, but so far impressed. Quick question. Is it supposed to come with output plugs? Mine only had the input.

Well, I found out they do not come with the output banana jacks. No biggie. Had some at home.

Likes:
  • Backlight
  • Small
  • Lots of information about the charge and discharge.
  • Built in balancer rocks... I can now see the states for each cell, and how far off they are from one another volt wise.
  • Upgradable firmware (which in the future could take care of some of the dislikes)
  • Both a Storage (50%) and Full (95%) mode in lipo helps with pack life.
  • 20+ setting memory
  • VERY SAFE. It gives you notices and warnings about making sure your lipo count is correct. Wont allow you to discharge if the packs voltage too low. Balancer senses connections quickly.
  • Cutoff is fully adjustable and cuts off from the cells versus total pack voltage when using balancer.

Dislikes:
  • One tone
  • Menu system can get confusing (though easier the more I work on it)
  • Though you can discharge lipos, you can't set it up to cycle (yet)
  • It wont try to auto balance the cells while discharging. I know this isn't big, but I would be nice to have both cells cut off at the individual cell rating versus only when the first reaches it.
  • Lots of information trying to be displayed in small screen.

Haven't gotten to play around with the ni-mh/cd settings yet. Want to cycle my React battery a few time, but don't have right adapter.

From a quick read of the manual, here are a couple of things I notice:

1. If charging without the balancer hooked up, you must press INC to get it to skip through the balancer check. (Do you need to *wait* before pressing INC? How long?)

2. There's no provision for naming the memory slots.

3. The manual is badly written; there's no way to figure out the user interface from reading the manual.

I've never used a balancer on my 2S Orion packs (my voltmeter shows them still in perfect balance), so I don't know if I'd hook up the balancer every time if I used a balancing charger, so I don't know how big a deal #1 is.

I think named memory slots are an important safety feature. It seems more reliable to look for the "Platinum 4800" slot or the "IB 4200" slot or the "Tx LiPo 1500" slot than to look each time for the battery chemistry and rate.

Bad documentation is common in this sort of product, but I get the sense that this charger might be a bit less easy to use than the ICE.

Otherwise this seems like a very attractive unit, compact and powerful.

Per #1 it will do its warning beep 3 times, then start the charge normally on its own.

I agree with the lack of naming. Maybe a future software update will include.

So far the charger has been workig fine. I charged a NMh 4 cell pack at 6 amps w/3Mv cutoff and it worked good enough as a backup to my Cell Master CTX-C. The only thing is that the case temp'd at 125*F.

I have a question about my 610c. What settings is ev1 else using? Like delta peak mv settings and such? I just updated mine cuz I was getting a bunch of false peaks w/nimh and it increased my delta peak mv max to 15mv. After the update it set default delta to 6mv.So now I am wondering where it should be? Anyone got ideas?
