Picking a radio
 

I'm having an issue with a vintage RC truck that I have. It has a graphite chassis and shock towers. Since I have installed a brushless motor into the chassis I have started to get pretty major glitches. At first, I though the glitches came from the combination of the brushless motor and graphite chassis. However, I have recently taken the truck to my parents house, which is basically a farm area with very few houses or industry around, and I did not get any glitches while I was there. I also had about triple the range as compared to my radio range at my house.

I'm currently using a 75mhz Duratrax radio that came bundled with the Vendetta.

I'm trying to decide on a new radio system, that I can use with 3 cars. The budget is limited to $150 for the radio and one receiver, although I'm having a difficult time committing that much money since I don't race and only use these cars to bash around in the backyard with the neighbors. I guess my main justification is based on the high speed accidents where I was fortunate to only break my R/C truck and not any of the neighbor's property.

Is there a relatively high confidence that the 2.4Ghz radios will solve the glitching problems that I'm having? If so, I'm leaning towards the MX3-FHSS radio.

My neighbor has the losi slider and the 2.4Ghz radio that came with it, often glitches around our neighborhood, so that has me a little concerned and has kept me from looking at the Spektrum models, since I believe that radio is based on that system?

Sorry for the long post, I guess I'm mainly looking for some reassurance before dropping the coin for an expensive radio system!

I pretty much only use my cars at the track, but I have Spektrum and have never had a single issue with glitching. I've had Spektrum, Airtronics, and KO Propo radios all with Spektrum systems in them. I don't even put my receiver antennas outside the bodies of my cars.

I wonder if you friends problems are caused by the mounting locations of the electronics, low batteries, etc.

As far as actually picking a radio system, the feel of it in your hands is more important than just about anything else. That's why I've gone through so many radios. Go to you LHS and find one you really like the feel of. After you find the one you like the best, you can always look for a used one if it's outside your price range.

Also, I'm partial to the Helios because I personally like the feel of it. But I'm sure the MX3-FHSS would suit your needs fine. You also might check out the Futaba 3PM 2.4 GHz if your looking for a 2.4 that's not the Spektrum brand.

None of the local stores carry the Airtronics so I'm taking a chance and just ordered the MX-3FHSS off the internet. Hopefully it'll be here early next week.
