M-11 problem
 

I have an M-11 and the steering wheel is sticking. When I turn the wheel and let go it sticks the direction I last turned it to. Especially when only turnig very little. How do I fix this problem? Do I need to take the wheel off and clean the bearing? I so, how do I get the wheel off?

I know exactly what the problem is. I've seen that happen with a couple of people's M11s (including mine). It isn't your bearings, but you do need to take the wheel off. Your wheel must have taken a bit of a hit (can be just from it falling over or could have happened during travel). The part that the wheel is connected to gets pushed in a little. This causes it to stick a little.

To take the wheel off you just need to remove the cover in the center of the wheel. You may need to take a little screwdriver to pop it off. There is a phillips head under the cover. Now take the phillips head screw out. After you take the screw out the wheel comes right off.

Now what you need to do is grab the part that the wheel was connected to with a pair of pliers and pull it back out until it pops back into place. It does take a bit of force.

Put it back together and you should be all set! :)

I don't have an M11 in front of me, but I'm curious why you'd take the wheel off and grab the shaft with pliers and pull rather than just pull on the wheel while it's attached to the shaft? Would you be concerned about ripping the screw out of the shaft? does it take that much force? Yikes!

Sort of, yeah. It does take some force. I'd be more concerned with breaking or cracking the wheel itself. I don't think you'd pull the screw out.

I was pretty fed up with mine until a friend showed me how to fix it. Once you pop it out it's like brand new!

I guess there's a practical reason to upgrade to a fancy alloy wheel...

You'd probably bend a fancy alloy one if you pulled on it hard enough to fix this problem. I wouldn't take a chance. It's easy enough to take the wheel off and fix it with pliers.

I had the same problem. The wheel got pushed in a bit. took it off and back on and it was good to go.

i had a similiar problem, call airtronics and sent it to them they'll fix it right away and send it back.

Cool, I'll try it and let you know how it goes. It does have an aftermarket wheel on it but not an alloy one.

The other thing to check is the foam on your steering wheel. I used to have a similar problem on a Hitec radio using an after market wheel. Sometimes the foam on the steering wheel will move and push up against the front of the radio case causing the steering wheel to bind or stick in a spot or even move a little slower. It can cause the steering not to return to center as well.

On the other hand, if it did take an impact you can pull on the wheel to free it up, but it's just a band aid fix for what's really wrong. If you do have time and a few bucks, I would send it in to make sure the steering is fixed properly.

....and if you have a few more bucks you might want to think about getting a protective case for the radio. :nod:

I want to thank VOODOO for his help and everyone else too. It was exactly as he thought. I got the wheel off with a little struggle, but when I did I gave the arm a little tug and I heard a snap and whala, good as new.

It must have gotten jarred somehow in the pits or something because it is stored and hauled around in a Speedmind bag. Great radio bags if anyone is wondering.
