is this a good discharger? this is 1 of the last big things I need to get and I want to get a good 1. can you adjust the amperage like 20 or 30 amps discharge?

Smart tray is for equalizing only. Discharge amperage isn't much. You can find the exact specs on Novak's web site.

The Trinity DPD will do what you want but you're rolling the dice with Trinity's quality and customer service.

Do most racers just discharge down to 0.9 volts and not worry about how many amps it does it at? Cause I really like the smart tray I just want to know what racers do, like if the adjust amperage and stuff.

most guys will discharge at a higher amperage down to about 5.4 amps (.9v per cell), then equalize each cell to make sure its just right.

Alot of guys use the Integy 20 or 30 amp discharger.
Here...
I personally like the 20, I run 4200's and have alot to pull out after a race and if keeps batteries cooler, and is not so hard on them. Others believe pull hard with a 30 and it "trains" the batteries to perform better. I dont believe that, heat = wear, plain and simple IMO.

Run the 20 amp, let sit 1 hour min., smart trey, then straight to the charger.

The novak smart tray discharges at 2 amps. It is not really used as a discharge tray but more of an equalizing tray. I use the Integy Indi 20 amp and 30 amp dischargers as well. I have both the 20 and 30 reactors and I cannot tell any performance difference between the two. I have noticed that the 30 will get the batteries a little hotter then the 20, but not by much. I have 2 Novak smart trays and they are one of the greatest RC items I have come across as far as battery maintenence goes.

Ok well sweet that helps a lot. Can you leave the battery on the indi discharger for to long or does it know when to stop?

The discharger will automatically cutoff. They also have a lighted led system that will go out when they are done.

I always keep a really close eye on the Discharger when I am discharging all of my batteries to make sure they do not get to hot and take them off as soon as it shows they are finished.

Get the Yokomo/Rayspeed. It does everything the Novak does and can discharge at 5A to .9v each.

I heard thru track chatter that you want to discharge at a similar rate to what your car/truck discharges as you race. This way the batt doesn't "know" the difference. I have not heard this disputed, so it's what I go by.

I Charge with a Pulsar 2, Discharge with an Integy Zero-30, then equalize with a Smart Tray.

After a 5 min heat/main in sedan, I use about 1500-1900 MaH of power out of my 4200s. Depending on my mood, and time between heats I do this at least twice on a race day. Other wise I just repeak.

Once a month, I use my Spintec Bat Man to condition the packs.

I have done this with the same 4 batt packs for almost a whole season and see no degredation in batt life. Recently my packs have taken me to 2nd or 3rd in the A mains.

What centerline racing posted is right on the money. Throw them on the tray at 30 amp discharge rate, let them rest for an hour, then onto the equalizer tray, then charge.

Allan- I have one of those spintec dischargers but really haven't used it on my batteries. I know it is supposed to de-crystalize the battery. Any insight?

Ok so right when I get done racing throw them on the discharger, then let it sit for an hour when its done. Then equalize then charge right after?? that seems easy enough. Now there are some who say 20 amps and some who say 30. What do you think the most 1 used is? and the indi reactor series is a good 1 right?

C_Money- I would just charge the pack, run it. Now here is where you can either discharge it, and than throw it on the smart tray, or just recharge it. I have been just recharging my packs. Sometimes if I haven't used the batteries in a few weeks I will discharge them, charge them, than run and discharge after running, to cycle them.

I would charge, run, throw them on a 30A discharger with a cutoff, and than let them rest, put them on the smart tray to equalize them. Then you can charge again.
