Minimum amps for modified TC

Hi,

I'm really tempted to buy the new Team Cayote 5300Mah Lipo. Since I'm running a modified Touring car I'm wondering if 5300 Mah are enough for 5 minutes.
I have seen the Cayone drivers using it at the Worlds but not sure it they are making a full 5 mns run.

It's enough unless you're running a really big wide open track with lots of boost and turbo.

Indeed my local track has a long straight. I'm running 4° boost and 43 Turbo.

Should still work.

But with a larger capacity you will have longer a higher voltage until the end.

5300mAh should be enough. I have run 4400mAh on an outdoor track with a 200' straight and a 5.0 motor, with 1 practice lap. But, I don't pull as much from my batteries as top level drivers. For a 5 minute mod run I average about 35A, where as a friend of mine is closer to 40A in a 5 minute run. I went to 5200mAh packs and didn't have any issues even with a couple of practice laps. Do you notice a drop off, yes. But it's mod, you have way too much power to start with!

For comparison, I average about 30A on an indoor track with an 80' straight.

Could you possibly explain how you make your calculations to get your amps draw ?

Charger tells you how many mAh it puts back in. Divide capacity used by time ran for an average current draw.

Should be fine but you might need to disable LVC if it's sagging under heavy acceleration and dumping early.

Haven't run anything hotter in a TC than a 13.5T for many years myself, but I run mod in Off-Road. We have a very large track with a very long straight, so I use lots of turbo setting myself and running 5000ish shorty LiPos was never an issue - in training I can run quite a bit more than pure race distance - even with LVC active and still on quite high setting. The only class i ever had to worry about batteries was mod 4WD SCT, but that class died years ago.

Personally I'd expect a 5300mAh LiPo to work well in a mod TC.

I had a 6400 (LiHV so more equivalent to a 5900 or so) that "dumped" after 12 laps at Moorebank with my timing cranked up with a 4.5T in a TC. Had to disable LVC to make it to the end of the run as the voltage dipped hard under load. Pack was still 7.3V resting voltage at the end of the run.

All right thank you everyone for your inputs. I'll give the 5300 a try !
